Located along a historic urban axis near Shanghai, the Jinyun Yangtantou District project reimagines a conventional street redevelopment into a multilayered ecological park. Developed by a consortium of Italian firms in collaboration with the Design Institute of South China University of Technology, the proposal transforms infrastructure into a living framework where urban, rural, and natural systems coexist. Drawing from the Chinese conception of space as continuous and relational, the design dissolves rigid functional boundaries to create a shared environment integrating slow mobility, public programs, and ecological corridors. Terraced riverfronts, cultivated fields, and wilderness zones merge into a sequence of diverse atmospheres that promote both biodiversity and social interaction. The result is not an “urban upgrade,” but a new ecological and cultural stage — a landscape of coexistence where multiple forms of life, movement, and meaning intersect.
