The 4th year “Integrated Design Studio” is an advanced architectural design studio with major emphasis on an architectural design project that uses previously learned skills through synthesizing user requirements, regulatory requirements, site conditions, accessible design, and consideration of environmental impacts. The proposed sites for this studio are located in the main campus of Washburn University in Topeka, KS. Established in 1865 as a public university, Washburn offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs across various disciplines, including business, law, nursing, and the arts and sciences. Known for its small class sizes and personalized learning environment, Washburn serves approximately 6,000 students and provides a strong sense of community. The university’s campus features state-of-the-art facilities, a vibrant student life, and affordable tuition, making it a popular choice for students in the region. The new Institute of Healthcare Excellence is intended to be not only a state-of-the-art facility in the field but also new focal points for campus activities and development.
